Digital or Traditional
Posted On: 12/23/2011 01:37:40

Do you guys prefer drawing traditionally- good ol' pencil and paper (and paints, pastels...)- or digitally, with Photoshop or some other program? And why?

I prefer traditional because it's real, like yes-I-can-touch-it-but-no-I-won't-because-its-art-and-my-grubby-fingers-wil l-get-it-all-dirty. And it captures the feelings of the moment, unlike digital because you can just delete and redo it if you don't like how it looks, but it loses its meaning and permanency. I guess you could also erase pencil, but you get the point. I'm not too sure how to explain it.

Don't get me wrong, I do a lot of my art digitally, I like the neat and orderliness of it, and it can hold as much emotion and beauty as traditional art. But really. BOOM, there goes your tablet/computer. Now what? Whatcha gonna do now?

Digital art DOES have emotion in it, I have seen a lot of digital art in Deviantart with the artist pouring emotion in their art. Like...this or this. It is just based on somebody's emotion, I think digital art is handy and great for coloring. But I do agree on traditional art, it is original and it's a good way for drawing but not all digital art aren't bored pale drawings.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of beautiful digital artwork. But it's also about creativity. I enjoy seeing what other people are able to do with different mediums.

Yeah i agree. traditional seems more real to me.But i do love the cleaness of the finished work :) I think people should learn both, they both come in handy ;) The reason i don't put up any traditional stuff is because its a pain to scan

Yeah, both is good. I don't put up my traditional stuff too often cause all I have is a camera and it's too much work taking a billion pictures of one image then tweaking the nicest one.
