Another rainy day..
Near thought as he was staring out the window watching the rain fall. The soft glaze of fog layered onto the glass. He would wipe it off but it just came back a while later covering up the marks left behind. The small albino boy gave off a small sigh. It had been a week or so ago that Mello, the chocolate addict they had all grown to love, had left the orphanage where they were raised. He truly missed Mello. He knew very well that Mello had grown to hate the small boy beyond just jealousy. But, he still missed him. Near didn’t even want to think about what Matt, Mello’s best friend, felt at the time.
Matt was lying against the left wall of Mello’s room. In hand he had an unopened chocolate bar and the small note the blonde chocolate addict had left his loyal dog.
See you around, Matt.
That’s all it read. The text scribbled onto a ripped piece of paper. Left as only an after thought. Had Mello ever cared about Matt at all? Or was he just a dog, following his master around without even questioning. Why didn’t Mello even tell him he was leaving? Why didn’t he ask the redhead if he wanted to go with the blonde? Did he just not want the boy to go? He shook his head at the thought practically forcing himself to think of the one thing that could prove his last statement wrong. The mere sparks of sadness had turned into a full flame. A wild fire in the boys mind. As the amount of tears running down his pale cheeks grew he heard a soft voice in the hallway.
“Matt?” The small white hair boy whispered into the hallway of the room. The boy raising his voice repeated, “Matt? Are you in there?”
Even at the sound of the voice the redhead didn’t look up, just stated in an unstable blank voice,
“What do you need near……”
The small boy shuffled over to the usually happy and carefree gamer. Near had never seen Matt cry. Not even when Mello punched him, or hurt him in any way for that matter. Not when Mello got him back for pranks in cruel ways. The boy just took it. For Near this was a whole new side of Matt.
“Are you ok?” The small boy bent down in front of the redhead.
Matt raised his head to look at near. His emerald orbs started filled with tears almost resembling the sight of a wave escaping out of the ocean but in the form of crying eyes. He turned his head away from the small albino. He didn’t want to talk to anyone; now that his only friend had left the orphanage he was alone. He didn’t even have a real self. He is a shadow of his best and only friend. When they see him they think of Mello. Mello was the beautiful shinning star and Matt was the blank dark sky. All he did was reflect Mello image onto everyone. Without that, what was he? What is a sky without stars?
“I’m fine Near leave me alone…..”
Near could almost read the thoughts going through the boy’s mind. Looking at such a happy and energetic person like Matt lying down in a dark room, eyes filled with cold tears. It made even the emotionless boy of the orphanage feel his heart breaking down into sadness. He couldn’t help shedding a tear and grabbing matt into a soft warm embrace. Matt didn’t respond at first but, later returned the hug gently putting his arms around the albino’s waist and silently sobbing into the other boy’s pale chest covered by a thin white pajama shirt. Near couldn’t help but give out a small smile. They lay there silent, the sound of the rain pounding onto the ground surrounding them. A small bit of light shimmering ever so softly on there weak bodies.
Near was the fog on Matt’s window,
Covering up the marks Mello had left.
