there is a free tool called stickman3d that provides you with guides that you need when drawing your favourite character, person or cartoon.

it is basically a 3d stickman which you can rotate, change the size of its bones and drag around its bones to the position you want.

Then you can take a screen shot or print it and use it as a guide for drawing
