Their start came from the producers of boy band SG Wannabe, who decided to create a female version of the group. In 2005 they hosted auditions where Nam Gyu Ri, Kim Yeon Ji, and Lee Bo Ram were selected from a pool of about four-hundred hopefuls. The trio then received voice and dance training from k-pop's top producers and singers. It is rumored that up to ₩ 1,000,000,000 was invested on SeeYa to ensure their success.
Although their album was released in early 2006, their first single already made it to the top of the charts by spring. They debuted with "여인의 향기 (Scent of a Woman)" and "구두 (Shoes)". They have also performed "사랑하기 때문에 (Because I Love You)" which features SG Wannabe. They have continued performing through the year with "미친 사랑의 노래 (Crazy Love Song)" a song from the Invisible Man soundtrack. They also performed a dance remix of "Crazy Love Song" to showcase their dancing ability.
Their second album was released on May 25, 2007. Promoted with the single "사랑의 인사 (Love's Greeting), the album sold 81,723 copies in 2007, making it the fifth best-selling album in Korea for the year, according to the Music Industry Assocication of Korea.
On January 2, 2008 SeeYa released a special album with the title "California Dream." The album stands apart for containing famous songs that the band has remade in its own way, such as "The Day," which Kim Yeon-ji sang along with Brown Eyed Girls' Jea; "Flying in the deep night," which Nam Gyu-ri sang for a movie's original soundtrack; an OST song from the TV drama "Full House" originally performed by Lee Bo-ram, and others. The new album will also include "슬픈 발걸음 (Shoes II)," which has received a favorable response from listeners since its online release on December 17. They performed their next hit song, "그래도 좋아 (I Still Like You)," on January 31, 2008 in the Seoul Music awards.
Their third album was released on September 26, 2008. Their title track is "Hot Girl". "Hot Girl" is an electronic and upbeat song and is different to the usual songs that SeeYa promotes. Korean Top Artist Lee Hyori stated in an interview She said,“They are not only a group with singing talents, but one that has everything,” and “I have seen their hidden talents because of the closeness we share from juniors to seniors [within the company].” She added, “I previewed the full-length album and I was so surprised at their transformation,” and “This album is one in which you can see all of SeeYa’s charms.”
