How to Draw Drums -

Boom! Boom! These drums are unplugged!

Step 1-

Ovals and circles. That's what you need to be able to draw first. To sketch these ovals, I draw first one side of the curve. Then I lift my hand and start on the opposite side of the curve. I drew all the ovals for the cymbals, then drew the ovals for the drums.

Step 2- The figure is in action and takes centre stage. I then filled the background in shades of blue, merging the airbrushed strokes with slightly transparent color.

Step 3 -
Now I airbrush in shades of yellow for the drums and cymbols. Their stands need to be delicate and thin.

Step 4 -
Finally, I finish the painting with a thin pencil line for outlines and squiggles for the darks and highlights. This gives it a delicate style of its own.

Quite the seasoned digital painter you are... and a touch of perfectionism there too~!

Now how about some tips on how to get your kids into drawing? XD I've got two and well.. not plenty of time, but time enough...

Thanks a pile.  It comes with practice and I do have a digital pen and Wacom tablet that helps.

To get kids interested in art, to begin with let them mess around in paints on large sheets of inexpensive paper. Give them long flat brushes that are firm - you can even paint on newspaper or brown paper. You can let them sit on the floor and cover the place with newspaper to protect it. I use large plates for palettes and always have a clean rag folded nearby for them to wipe the brush on when changing colors. Teach them to mix colors - a good way is to draw a butterfly - there's a simple tutorial here by me.

There are many tutorials here that are for beginners too - check out the peacock by me. Its simple and easy enough.  Once your hand moves freely on a large surface, it can be trained to paint carefully on smaller surfaces - and then let them try digital art in the end. You do miss out on the tactile experience there, but its good to have a mix of both if possible.
