There was always something wrong with the old mansion on top of Yaba-ding-ding hill, the way it would moan as the wind blew through it, the way it collect a lot of fog during those hot nights, the way it looked so run down with vines growing up most of the side and the trees way to big and bush replacing where grass should be, or maybe it was the silence that came from the old mansion.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I could still remember that day like it was yesterday, my grandfather and I were walking home, he was telling me a story about the old mansion, on why it was left alone all this time.

He began, once there was a beautiful girl living in this very castle, her hair as black as the night sky, her complexion like silk and white as milk, her eyes turquoise marbles, a baby face jaw, her bones would poke out of her skin from how thin she was. She wore big lacy dresses, big at the top and bottom; tiny at the waist, and her hair was always pinned up with a crown, did I mention she was a princess. The day that she died was as nice as today, the sun was shining, the birds were chirping, she was in her room at the top of the castle the one with the big balcony overlooking the town. She began her morning like any other, breakfast in bed, eggs and sausages and bread, a kings meal placed on a silver platter with a rose to the side, the servants shoes tapped on the marble floor as she left the princess to eat her meal. “If there´s anything else I can get you madam just let me know, I´ll be right outside waiting” the servant said, her green eyes open wide with joy. She wore a traditional servant’s uniform, black with white lace and a white apron covering from the top; her hair golden strands tucked away under a matching cap. The princess just nodded and waved her hands as in telling her to leave the room.

As she finished her breakfast, her servants came in and dressed her, as she was combing her hair there was a knock on the door. “Enter” she said. With his head bowed and both hands behind his back the man entered the room, dressed in a guards uniform, the man knelt to the her back, she knew who he was right away his voice was unmistakable, deep and course, his name was Commander Octavian, he was declared as the right hand guard of the king when he protected the king, almost giving his life in a battle against an oncoming opponent that tried to take the kings life away during the supper of celebration of the king´s birthday. She commanded her servants to leave.

“Princess Pandora, I´ve come baring good news your visitor is here, I shall tell him that you will be with him in minute.” He said as he knelt before her. She thought for a minute and looked towards the window “tell him that I will come out as soon as I´m ready, but first.” She turned towards him now “Tell me something, do you know if he brought it?” he looked her straight in the face stood up and smiled “he brought with him something square but it´s covered with a cloth, the inspectors where scared to look inside the box. But don´t worry your head, I will find you someone to check it out before it enters the palace.” She rose up out of her seat placing her delicate comb on the hand painted French dressing table. “As you leave, tell the girl at the door to come finish my hair.” She sat back down awaiting the presence of the young girl. Her hair reached the upper part of her back, flowing deep curls. The servant entered and attended to the princess, at the same time the inspectors looked frenetically for someone to search the box, a box decorated with pure gold. No bigger than to fit a mouse in, this box had a bad name it was to be held by one person and one person only, if anyone else was to open the box it would drive them to kill themselves. The box was specially crafted for our dear princess; no one really knows why she ordered to have this box made. The box had one golden knob to open it, and it was covered in different symbols.

Three guards went out in search for someone to give their lives in honor for the princess, each bringing back one.
