Seventeen year old Miki Falls is in her final year of school when she gets caught up in a romance with a reticent fellow archery student Hiro Sakurai. We see her here in her school uniform in the Spring season of the graphic manga novel.
Step 1 -
To centre the drawing, I sketched a perpendicular line for the wall that Miki leans against. Then I drew grey pencil guidelines - an oval for her face, a curve to bunch in the fly away hair, small circles to indicate her elbows, and shoulders for stick arms, and a 'V shape for her chest and curves for her skirt.
Finally I drew parallel curves to align the eyes nose and mouth and one perpendicular line to centre them.
Step 2 -
Let's put in the details now. I used black pencil strokes to outline her face that meets in a point at her chin. I flesh out the arms and draw the shirt with its wide collar that meets in a V at the neck. The breasts are drawn with a very slight bulge on both sides. I draw the eyes large and 2 dots make up the nose. The mouth is very slightly open, giving her an air of innocence.
Step 3-
To paint this in, I used the airbrush to begin with highlights for the hair. I then colored in the face and folded arms in a pale orange airbrush. For the darker shade, I used a pale transparent brown. making the colors transparent means it merges more easily.
Step 4 -
I airbrush a pale transparent sky blue for the background and a green for a tilted horizon lined with lavender hills. All this is lightly outlined with a transparent pencil in a darker self color. The wall is airbrushed in a dull red with hints of brick below. I blot out part of the wall with a dull transparent green so that the figure is the main focus.
Step 5-
I draw in the details for the eyes, with a white highlight. The nose is a pale orange and so is the mouth with transparent pencil darker tones on each end of the lips. Transparent pencil lines are used finally to bring depth to the hair with darks and highlights.
